WASHINGTON D.C.__ There has been Serious Drama in Capitol Hill today as President Trump abruptly denied military aircraft to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just minutes before the congressional delegation was set to depart for a supposed foreign trip to greet the US allies and the service men, in a stunning decision believed to be President Trump’s reaction to her call to delay the State of the Union address amid the government shutdown. Nancy Pelosi had called on the President to delay his state of the union address citing security threats, giving the President an option of putting it in writing to the Congress. This latest antics believed to be as a result of the disagreement over the Government Shutdown has infuriated the President as he felt undermined by the House Speaker, Pelosi. In response, President Trump had written a letter addressed to Nancy Pelosi thus;
“Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over.” Trump has been at a loggerhead with Nancy Pelosi since she took over the congress from Paul Ryan, it is believed that the new majority in congress must have made Democrats believe they can force the President’s hand to do whatever they want, although President Trump still have the upper hand in the Senate.
The President, in his letter further stated that he would prefer she stays in Washington to negotiate further on the Border security, so as to bring an end to the longest Government Shutdown in US history.
“I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.”
Here is the letter in full:
Dear Madame Speaker,
Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over, In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.
I look forward to seeing you soon and even more forward to watching our open and dangerous Southern Border finally receive the attention, funding, and security it so desperately deserves!
Donald J. Trump
Remember, Nancy Pelosi had threatened to cancel the State of the Union address originally scheduled for 29th January, 2019. She had been reprimanded for her comments but doubled down on it again today.
According to reports coming out of the White House, President Trump immediately ordered for the cancellation of the trip when he heard of it, and the military aircraft meant to take off for the journey at 3:00 Pm ET was called off with an emergency call from the Department of Defence.
This move by the President will surely trigger Nancy Pelosi further, and put her in her place for good.
There have been talks of impeachment mooted among top democrats in the house, most especially Adam Schiff, who has promised an investigation into the Michael Cohen meeting with President Trump just before Cohen was meant to testify before congress. Although any attempts of impeachment will surely fall through, these will make Nancy and co give it a crucial thought.
So far, President Trump has shown Nancy Pelosi that he wont be just a walk over for her and her colleagues in the congress, this will show her and Chuck Schumer that he is the President and they are not.
Sources close to the President have said, that Trump plans to declare a National emergency on the border if things continue the way they are currently, with him growing increasingly impatient with the Democrats stuttering his plans so far.
This promises to spring up a whole new turn of events as we head into the weekend.
President Trump has triggered Nancy Pelosi for sure, with 2020 by the corner, how will this affect the politics in Washington? The battle for supremacy is surely on show, who will win the day? We wait to see.
