Ilhan Omar has bitten more than she can chew, the estranged Congresswoman has been causing firestorm in the United States and the international community of late. Her insensitive comments have drawn widespread criticism from either side of the isle. Most notably has been her Antisemitic tropes, and these in particular, has caught the eyes of the Israelis.
An Israeli NGO has filed a petition with the Jerusalem District Court seeking the prevention of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar from entering Israel.
Shurat HaDin has asked Interior Minister Aryeh Deri to prevent Omar from visiting the country because of her support for the BDS movement against Israel.
Under a strict law enacted by Israel in 2017, the state may ban any foreigner from entering the country that “knowingly makes a public call for a boycott of Israel”. Something she has repeatedly done in and outside of Congress. Her Twitter feeds can be compared to a book written against Israel and the Jews. Although she has denied any wrongdoing.
Last week Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer announced that Omar and Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib will be allowed to enter the Jewish state. This is despite their support for the BDS movement, “out of respect for the US Congress and the grand alliance between Israel and the United States.”
Omar claims to be very excited about her trip to Israel by commenting that ”this is an opportunity to learn more about the situation on the ground and find the best ways to advance a two-state solution.” The trip may not happen if the news we’re getting today is anything to go by. You don’t expect to keep bashing a group of people without them reacting in any way.
Omar and Tlaib are the first female Muslim women to be elected to Congress. They have been accused of harboring anti-Semitic sentiment because of their vocal opinions against the Jewish State. Ilhan Omar has been particularly insensitive with words and that has caused a rift between her and President Trump.
Omar proposed a resolution this week supporting the right to boycott Israel, likening the boycott of the Jewish state to boycotts of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. She hates Israel so much as to compare them to the Nazis that wiped out about 6 million of them. How insensitive!
Omar, last week proposed a resolution seeking to push back against US laws banning the boycott of Israel and affirms the right of Americans to organize boycotts of foreign countries if they wish.
“We are introducing a resolution … to really speak about the American values that support and believe in our ability to exercise our First Amendment rights in regard to boycotting,” Omar (D-Minn.) told Al-Monitor
“And it is an opportunity for us to explain why it is we support a nonviolent movement, which is the BDS movement,” she added.
How much longer do you think Omar will last in the United States Congress?
