GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN: The Battle for Supremacy

Spread the love

The unceasing quest for power in Washington D.C. is causing pain for the common man as Nancy Pelosi and Donald Trump fight for who get to have the final say on the issue of border security. The power struggle between the President and the House Speaker can be described as childish at best, with there being series of back and forth fights and retaliations from both parties.

Nancy Pelosi had called on the President to cancel his State of the Union speech citing security concerns, and in retaliation, the President cancelled her trip to Egypt, Afghanistan, and others, labelling her trips “foreign excursions”. President Trump, who banned speaker Pelosi from using the military aircraft, instead asked her to stay in Washington to negotiate further on the border wall funding in order to get the Government reopened.

President Trump called Nancy Pelosi ‘Radical’ and accused her of trying to sabotage his government by refusing to negotiate anything that includes the border wall funding demanded by President Trump.

President Trump had asked the congress to include $5.7 Billion to whatever they are bringing to him to sign for Government funding, and the failure of the congress to do so had led to the month-long Government shutdown. In a bid to resolve the standoff, the President has offered a deal to Democrats, believed to be an amnesty program for the unlawful immigrants brought into the US by the parents as kids. President Trump disclosed that he will extend the grace period for DACA participants believed to be over 700,000; and protect the 11,000,000 undocumented immigrants from deportation. All these he offered in exchange for the wall funding, but Nancy Pelosi showed no interest in the deal at all, calling it “a non-starter”.

The Senate majority leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell has called for a vote on the bill, but his democrat colleagues led by Sen. Chuck Schumer will be pushing to make sure this doesn’t pass in the senate floor.

Why is Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer holding out so stubbornly, not minding the suffering of the people they so claim to be fighting for? Why are they not willing to accept a compromise just for the sake of the people they claim to be protecting? The reason is simple, they are more interested in getting illegals in than they are of protecting the American citizens. They want the votes that these undocumented immigrants can deliver for them, so they go with the “walls are immoral” argument, when they have walls protecting their own houses.

Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer should know when to stop, and start focusing on the people that voted them into office, we the American people are tired of the dirty and childish politics being played at Washington.
