UTAH MOTHER WHO BEATS CAT IN FRONT OF HER CHIILDREN AND SNAPPED ITS NECK ARRESTED.
A Utah mother, who reportedly suffers from depression, was arrested on Saturday; four months after cops said she beats a cat and snapped its neck in front of her children.
On the 25th of September police arrived at Arianne Borg’s home and discovered her 17-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter crying, the salt lake tribune reported, citing documents. The children told officers that Borg “beat their cat over and over again and snapped its neck.”
Her daughter told authorities in November that her mom held “the cat by the legs and repeatedly hit it on the table” which she later snapped its neck, authorities said and when she tried to intervene, her mom reportedly hit her on the arm.
Borg was found covered with blood from “multiple self-inflicted stab wounds on her abdomen and writs,” and the cat found dead at back of the house the newspaper reported.
According to her attorney Steven Burton, she has spent most of her life time battling with depression, and her health deteriorated after her medications were adjusted in july. He also said authorities went to Borg’s home a week before the incident because she sought help with her mental health, but “no meaningful help was provided.”
According to The Desert News, Burton said his client has been responding positively to treatments since October, and called her arrest “Devastating.”
“it is disappointing to see that after all we have learned about mental illness, our system still re-victimizes those struggling, and increases the risk that they will suffer further setbacks,” he said. “We hope that those who see this story will urge law enforcement, prosecutors, and the media and the legislature to improve the ways they treat mental illness so we can help those who are sick before they reach a point of crisis and tragedy”.
